![]() ![]() “Celebrating Women at the Top” is NAWBO-Silicon Valley’s annual awards dinner, which was held on October 18, 2005 at the beautiful San Jose Capital Athletics Club. The Keynote Speakers for this event were NBC’s Janice Edwards, Host & Producer of Bay Area Vista (NBC-11) and Deborah Collins Stevens, Executive Director of the Center or Innovative Leadership. Our prestigious awards recognize the tremendous achievements and skills of members and business people in our community and are presented in the following categories:

SpeakersJanice EdwardsNBC11 Community Focus HostJanice Edwards is Community Relations Director and Host and Producer of “Bay Area Vista” on NBC11/KNTV. Before joining NBC11, Janice was a reporter and update anchor at KRON’s BAYTV and host of “Black Renaissance” the longest running talk show dedicated to the Bay Area’s African-American Community. Her celebrity interviews include Oprah Winfrey, Robin Williams, Danny Glover, Dennis Quaid, and Tavis Smiley. Janice’s career in broadcasting began in Atlanta, Georgia, as co-host of a teen talk show for WSB radio. She continued to work in radio and to write for newspapers as an undergraduate at Harvard University and a graduate student at U.C. Berkeley School of Journalism. During that time she also studied Spain and wrote for El Mundo, in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Although born in Chicago, Janice considers herself a Bay Area semi-native, having worked as a producer at KRON-TV and KPIX-TV, before she began reporting. Janice is a contributing author to the book “Quality Angles” featuring interviews with Kevin Costner and Robert Townsend. Women of Excellence and the Bay Area Black Media Coalition have honored her for her work. Janice is a member of the Board of Governors for the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS). She lives in Oakland and doesn’t miss Chicago or Massachusetts winters at all! --Deborah Collins StephensDeborah Collins Stephens, Executive Director of The Center For Innovative Leadership, is an educator and author. She is co-author of the best selling book, One Size Fits One: Building Relationships One Customer and One Employee At A Time with Gary Heil and Tom Parker. As Executive Director of CFIL, Ms. Stephens frequently speaks on the issues of service, leadership, and organizational theory and development. The Center’s client list spans the spectrum of the Fortune 500 to start up organizations in a wide variety of industries. Such companies as IBM, Sun Microsystems, Merrill Lynch, Walt Disney World, Baxter Health Care, Coldwell Banker, Hard Rock Cafe and Federal Express have utilized the services of CFIL. In addition to her work with CFIL, Deborah has written articles on the subject of the new employment contract, the human side of organizations and service. Previous to this work, she held leadership positions in the public sector. Deborah started her career in the publishing industry where she worked in sales, product management and editorial acquisitions. Ms. Stephens is currently working on a second book entitled Working In A One Size Fits One World with co-authors Gary Heil and Eunice Azzanni, Vice President and Partner of Kern Ferry International. |
