January 2006: Past Presidents Panel
NAWBO-SV Past Presidents of the Board Jeanne Beacham, Bonnie Bedford-White, Bobbie Fakkema, Laurel Leone, and Robin Neilsen joined the membership for an evening of insight, advocacy, and sharing. Each of the Past Presidents fielded questions from moderator Monika Miles on such topics as toughest business decision, most successful business decision, business philosophy, how to maintain a competitive edge, and NAWBO success stories. Bobbie Fakkema regaled the audience with anecdotes about the early days of NAWBO-SV. Jeanne Beacham spoke about the difficulties of running a business during a prolonged illness, the blessing of employee support, and the triumph of moving past that hurdle. Bonnie Bedford-White talked about her evolution as a business woman from High School Art teacher to Graphic Designer and her desire to become more involved in naturalist pursuits. Laurel Leone outlined how she had expanded her business over the years by adding value-added services such as search engine optimization to her core competency - managing yellow pages advertisements. And Robin Neilsen stressed that the most important aspect of her business is that she found a way to make money by doing what she loves.
