August 2007: Take Your Company to the MILLION DOLLAR Level and ABOVE
![]() ![]() Guest Speakers: Lauren Ventura from Cisco Systems and Small Business Owner and CMI awardee, Kimberly Martinez demystified the “Make Mine a Million$ Business Program” to the membership. They outlined how to access a host of resources by joining the Make Mine a Million business movement, a program from Count Me In for Women’s Economic Independence (CMI), founding partner OPEN from American Express® and sponsored by Cisco Systems and other leading organizations. While 50% of companies in the U.S. are owned by women, less than 4% have sales in excess of $1 million. They spoke about the benefits of competing for a combination of money, mentoring, marketing and technology tools that women entrepreneurs need to help grow their businesses from micro to $millions. Wendy Buller of Benchmark Environmental presented the 5 O’Clock Seminar on “How to Find Your GSA Contracts Amidst the Maze”—A Primer to Getting Plugged into the GSA Schedules for Your Business. She emphasized that small businesses can be sucessful contracting with Federal agencies. She provided a brief overview of the GSA mission and walked members through how to go online to find your GSA Schedule, how to Download it and what to do with it.
