How The Career Closet Helps

Imagine what it is like to enter today’s job market, perhaps for the first time, without an appropriate business outfit or a decent pair of shoes. What if the only clothing you own will immediately disqualify you for the job that you want.

Now imagine coming to Career Closet where a volunteer focuses her time helping you choose business appropriate clothing. You receive helpful hints and coaching for your job interview, and when you leave you have a week’s clothing and the services free.

Their clients come from ethnically diverse backgrounds. Many of them face the extraordinary challenge of overcoming the barriers of poverty, domestic violence, substance abuse, or lack of educational opportunities. Their hard work, Career Closet clothing and a committed volunteer transform each woman into a confidant professional.

Visit the Career Closet website for more information.

Help NAWBO-SV to support an organization that lifts hundreds of women into financial self-dependence and a better life.

Our combined gifts will be presented to Jean Cecil, the Executive Director of the Career Closet, at our December 11 lunch meeting. She will share stories of extraordinary women moving out of very difficult situations.

Sometimes dreams need a little help to get started.

Five O’Clock Seminar
Short-Circuit: Why Branding Matters in a Time Compessed World
Presented by: Deborah Shea, President and Creative Director, Hellbent Marketing

5:00-5:30pm

Branding helps women owned business-owners overcome two countervailing forces:
1. Increased marketing noise in business where the public is putting on mental blindfolds and checking out
2. Time-compression in business where cycles are shorter, attention spans are in the decline, but businesses, particularly small ones, still have to grow.

Women business owners must do more work (including more marketing work) in less and less time. A strong brand is no frill. It is the foundation of a viable and cost effective business.

Learn tools to use your brand to differentiate your product/service offerings, to clearly communicate your competitive advantages and to create an emotional connection with your customers.

Of course we never needed a wizard, but advice from a good witch or two (or even 4) can always help!

Surprises? Frustrations? You bet! But our panelists know there are more than a few ways to run around those obtacles.

Please join us for a special panel discussion of insight, advice, goals and smart moves encountered in the journey to grow a thriving business. Moderated by Marilyn Ritter, Program Chair, with a question and answer session by the audience after the presentation.
