NAWBO-SV Frequently Asked Questions

Events |
| When is your next event? |
Visit our Events Registration page. |
| Who is the speaker? |
Visit our Events Registration page. |
| How do I register for an event? |
Visit our Events Registration page. |
| Do I have to be a member to attend an event? |
Membership in our Chapter is not a requirement to attend our monthly events. In fact, “friends” of NAWBO - Silicon Valley are encouraged to attend a couple of meetings to get to know the group and feel more comfortable before joining. A benefit of membership, however, is discounted fees at all NAWBO - Silicon Valley meetings. |
| Where are the events held? |
Visit our Events Registration page. |
| Do you have directions? |
These are posted on our Events Registration page. |
| Where do I park? |
Parking options are posted on our Events Registration page. |
| Do you ever have events during the daytime/lunchtime? |
Yes. A few of our chapter monthly events are luncheons. All South County and East Bay events are luncheons. |
| I made a reservation, but at the last minute could not make it. May I receive a refund? |
The standard policy is that if you don’t cancel by the Friday before the event, there are no refunds. This statement is included in the Cvent confirmation notice. |
| I would like to send someone else in my place. May I do that? |
Yes, as long as the person attending is the same type of ticket option. For instance, a corporate partner must send another person working at their company, a member must send another member and a non-member must substitute another non-member. Please send us an email to notify us of any substitution, info@nawbo-sv.org. |
| I missed the last event. Is there a recording or video of the presentation that you can send to me? |
No, at this time we do not offer a video or audio recording. Depending on the style of the speaker, we may have collected handouts or other materials. We can mail you an event packet if you call or send an e-mail request. |

Event Registration |
| Who is Cvent? |
Cvent is our online event registration and payment vendor. |
| Why does my charge bill say Cvent as the merchant for my attendance at the last meeting? |
Cvent processes all credit card charges on our behalf. Since they maintain the merchant card services, they are shown as the merchant for any NAWBO - Silicon Valley event. |
| What if I don’t want to pay online, but still want to use a credit card? |
At this time, Cvent is the service that we use to process charge purchases. If you are not comfortable with making your purchase online, they you may pay via check or cash. Please pre-register online using the Pay-At-The-Door option to pay by cash or check at the door. |
| I know that I paid for my registration, but I don’t have a confirmation notice to show at the door on the day of the event. What do I do? |
If you would like to ensure that your registration has been properly completed, please send an email to info@nawbo-sv.org with the contact information of the registrant and the event for which they feel they registered. Someone in the association office will verify the purchase and contact the registrant. |

| I want to send a notice to other NAWBO members about a new service I am offering. How do I do that? |
We don’t allow this type of e-blast to go out through any of our lists. If you wish to send a snail-mail direct mail piece, then you may do that on your own.
NAWBO-SV does offer a tool that allows you to connect with other chapter members via e-mail. Visit NAWBO-SV Talk for more information. |
| I want to be the featured member for a month. How do I do that? |
To volunteer to be the featured member for a particular month, please contact our Director - Membership at membership@nawbo-sv.org. Speaking at NAWBO-SV Events |
| How do I get selected to speak at one of your meetings? |
Speakers are selected by the Programs Director and the Board of Directors based on the relevance to the membership and the results of the member value survey. Additionally, speakers should have the referral of a NAWBO member who can substantiate the relevance and highest quality of the proposed presentation to the group. |
| How much do you pay for a speaker? |
At this time we do not have the funding to pay speakers. |
| Who pays for the copies of handouts? |
Speakers are encouraged to provide their own handouts to all attendees. Speakers will be provided with an estimated headcount within one week of the event for planning purposes. |
| I need an LCD projector for my presentation; do you have one? |
At this time an LCD projector is cost prohibitive to the Chapter. Speakers are encouraged to bring their own LCD projector and NAWBO - Silicon Valley will provide power cords and a projection screen. |
| I want to bring an assistant to help me; is there a charge for this person? |
Because our meetings fees are kept to the level of break-even, we ask that speakers pay for any assistants they may bring. We will discount the fees to the lowest member pricing offered. |
| I want to sell something at the event (books, CDs, etc.), will you have someone who can help me with this? |
If necessary, we will make every attempt to request a volunteer from the membership to assist speakers with the sales of any of their merchandise. We require advance knowledge of this of at least two weeks. Additionally, speakers are required to provide their own supplies, change, display racks, etc.; NAWBO - Silicon Valley will provide a skirted display table. |
