President's Message
President's MessageMaxine Goulding, NAWBO-SV President and Founder of California Special Occasions
Were you at our April meeting? If not, I want to tell you a little bit about our keynote speaker, Jin Robertson. In my opinion, she was very inspirational. She told us her story of when she came to the United States from Korea at the age of 22, with $100 to her name, and very little English under her belt. However, that did not hold her back from becoming a Major in the U.S. Army and earning her PhD from Harvard. You have to wonder what was her motivator, what drove her, and how did she keep the faith? She told us that she had a dream and she did not lose that dream. When times were tough for her, she thought about her dream, over and over again - that kept her going. I believe that is one ingredient to anyone’s success in life and business, never give up what you want to do. Have you forgotten your dream? Maybe it was due to all the busyness around you, or you became busy in life or possibly you just forgot. If you have forgotten your dream or the light has dimmed, maybe it’s time to rekindle that dream. I’ve been thinking about my own dreams lately and realized it’s time to sit down and rewind, not unwind. I attended the San Jose Silicon Valley Business Journal's Women of Influence awards and was so proud to be there to see three of our members being recognized in front of 960+ people. Jan Robertson and Erika Taylor Montgomery were 2 of the 100 honorees, and Ruth Stergiou was honored as the Woman Business Advocate of the Year. The entire event was nicely put together and recognizing 96 of the 100 honorees in one evening was quite a show. Each honoree was asked “What is the single best piece of advice that you have ever received?” and they had to say it in 10 words or less. Some of these quotes were surprising and some were thought provoking. Listen and judge for yourself by clicking here. Lastly, thanks to member Robin Fisher for submitting this fantastic article from the Wall Street Journal on what holds women back from becoming top executives. To your success!!! Warm regards,

New Member Spotlight
Rita Marcojohn, We’ve Got Your Back Rita Marcojohn is founder and President of “We’ve Got Your Back, LLC”, a retail store and education center dedicated to helping customers make healthy life and work-style choices. Twenty-five years as a high tech senior executive with leading technology companies; Fujitsu, Xerox and Cisco, combined with long days in front of a computer and over a million air miles in uncomfortable airline seats resulted in chronic neck and back pain. A diagnosis of degenerative disk disease sent Rita on a search for treatment options. Unwilling to give up cycling or other outdoor sports, she set out to find a better understanding of the problem, root causes and pain relief strategies. The search confirmed many suffer from the consequences of a work-hard, play-hard lifestyle and revealed disabling pain is avoidable. “We’ve Got Your Back” was founded to help others understand how healthy ergonomics, fitness and lifestyle habits can relieve or eliminate neck and back pain without surgery or drugs. "We've Got Your Back" is a women-owned business delivering best-in-class products and services in ergonomic seating and accessories, fitness gear and comfort solutions. Our goal is to help eliminate the root cause of the pain. The showroom in Los Gatos was designed to serve the community with educational programs, fitness classes and product demonstrations. The “We’ve Got Your Back” team is here to support the home office, telecommuter or office workstation with training, chair fittings, ergonomic assessments and life-style support programs. Connect with Rita today and welcome her to NAWBO Silicon Valley!
