Margaret Smith is a small business attorney turned entrepreneur. For many years, she owned the iconic downtown Los Gatos kitchen and housewares store, Domus, which she expanded to three other locations, Pleasanton, Palo Alto, and Willow Glen. In the late 80’s, she learned about NAWBO and joined the San Francisco Chapter. There she met several other women from the fastest growing region in the country, Silicon Valley, and together they founded the Silicon Valley Chapter. Within a few years, she was nominated to the National Board of Directors of NAWBO, and then ran for and was elected national President of NAWBO, the nation’s oldest organization representing the interests of the millions of women owned businesses in the U.S.

Among her accolades, Smith has presented testimony before the U.S. Congress on issues affecting women entrepreneurs, negotiated with Wells Fargo Bank for the first in the nation loan fund directed at women owned businesses which has grown from a $1B commitment to over $48B in loans. She also served as the Chair of the Women’s Business Research Center in Washington, D.C. and was selected to the Women’s Hall of Fame.
